Heron On The Brandywine

Heron On The Brandywine

85.00

This white heron was fishing one morning on the western branch of the Brandywine River in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  The river meanders through meadows that in pre-colonial times nurtured the Lenape (Algonquin) native American tribe.  The photo had a simplicity and structure that reminded me of Japanese painted scrolls.  The border is a traditional repeating heron design which might be seen on a Tsuba, a Japanese sword guard, or an obi sash. Japanese mythology regards herons as divine birds, omens of happiness and symbols of fidelity and longevity.
