Considering I can’t conceptualize mathematics past the number of fingers and toes that I have it is probably a bit of a puzzle why I decided to play with theFibonacci sequence and colors. The Fibonacci Sequence is a series of numbers found by adding up the two numbers before it, 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, and so on - the number 2 is found by adding 1 plus 2, 3 is found by adding 1 plus 2. But the sequence on paper is much more exciting when it can be directly observed in nature. The spiral of a mollusk shell and the pattern of seeds on the head of a sunflower are made up of the Fibonacci sequence and can be graphically displayed in blocks. Likewise the relationship between the numbers can be seen when they are stacked on top of each other in circles of increasing size. I didn’t start out to make a mathematically themed scarf but after I had put random color blocks onto the surface the design came together. Just like that!
